Some day ago Mr. Mahathelge Mohamad Supriyadi who I call Mas Memet said, "I will never ask to health students like nurses or doctors about their GPA." When I asked why he answered, "Because health students must be excellent in skills, not only in theories. And GPA (mostly) just show about their effort to study in class or exam, not determine their skills." I know, Mas Memet didn't underestimate academic side of health profession. He just give emphasizes that health students must care about their skills beside their scores. I remember my Lecturer, Ms. Harmayetty, S.Kp, M.Kes ever said, "You can get high scores in exam, but it's useless when you're facing the patient." Yes, being a nurse means take action.
According to me nurse defined as a person/persons who is needed by people which have health problems. Health problems is not only disease, but also bad habits, risk behaviors, unhealthy environment, etc.
I've inspired some American films which mention nurse in its scene. For example, Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel (2009). In a scene, Theodore, one of The Chipmunks member hit by a bowling ball, and he said spontaneously, "Ah.. I need a nurse!" And also in Vertical Limit (2000), when Monique Aubertine (Izabella Scorupco) got fracture in his finger until it's crooked, and Peter Garret (Chris O'Donnell) try to straighten it. Peter try to distract Monique's pain with said that it's will be fine. But Monique with a little upset said, "Don't bullshit me, Peter. I'm nurse!" Yes, both isn't important scene, but it give me some meaning. It's shown that in America, nurses have strategic roles in society.
