Abstract: According to a paper on the
Encyclopedia of Early Childhood Development site by Maria Ramsay, Ph.D, a
research expert on pediatric feeding disorders, approximately 25 to 28 percent
of infants have
feeding problems in the first 6 months. Those problems can cause loss of
appetite which can disrupt
an infant's ability to take vital nutrients. Many factors
cause the infant lose their appetite. This case is the challenge for profesional health care to make a
strategy that can solve the problem The
purpose of this paper is to find alternative way to
prevent suckle refusal and increase appetite in infant. The data used is
secondary data through library research with qualitative approach and data analysis is
descriptive-analysis. There should have the solution to overcome the problem. Tahnik as effective Way to Increase Appetite in Infant with “Feeding Problem Based
on Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad SAW” is needed to overcome the problem. Fourteen century ago, Prophet Muhammad
SAW had a sunnah named tahnik. Tahnik means to
chew a palm date, take a
tiny amount of the pulp and put it to the newborn child’s mouth. Bukhari and Muslim, narrated
Abu Musa: “A son was born to me and I took him to the Prophet who named him
Ibrahim, Tahnik for him with palm
date, invoked Allah to bless him and returned him to me.” According to Dr.
Muhammad ‘Ali Al-Bari, the substances of glucose in infant’s blood is very low.
It causes the infant refuse
to suckle, and tahnik can solved that problem. Chewed palm date can provide mild glucose to
increase infant’s appetite. We hope tahnik can be an
effective way and applied on the effort to solve the problem eating the infants, so the
numbers of feeding problem in infant can be reduced.
